Nerd alert: Turmeric Hummus

I promised I would post this turmeric hummus recipe nearly five months ago – oops! I first created it for Miss Marzipan’s Food of Thrones Challenge back in June (along with the fiery dragon eggs and hearty chicken casserole with sweet potato dumplings). Each week that Game of Thrones aired in 2016, Marisa set a theme for nerdy food bloggers like me to contribute to. This turmeric hummus was created for ‘landscapes of fire and ice’, as a tribute to to vasty sandy plains we frequently see in GoT; including the grassy ‘Dothraki Sea’, and the hot desert of Dorne.

So, this hummus really is a ‘turmeric’ hummus. Turmeric haters beware. I’ve developed quite a liking for turmeric over the last couple of years, and these days even smear turmeric paste on my toast now and again! I use this hummus as a dip and a spread. I’ve even been able to sneak it onto my 5 year old son’s mountain bread wraps for school, and he hasn’t complained, which is a good sign! Continue reading

Hearty Chicken Casserole with Sweet Potato Dumplings

This past week has been a very tough one for some of the people in my life, and will continue to be for some time. Thank-you very much to those who generously donated last week to the campaign to help Mel and her family, after their house burnt down.

My heart is also with my dear friend, whose father passed away on Thursday. My friend is the most resilient person I know – I am in awe of her seemingly endless capacity to give, including through her work. But I also wish she didn’t have to be. She is a beautiful mother (to the cutest, most chilled out little baby, who gives cuddles like a koala bear) and a wonderful friend, and I’m sending her lots of love.

Hearty Chicken Casserole with Sweet Potato Dumplings

I first made this for Miss Marzipan’s Food of Thrones Challenge back in April, dedicated to the Starks of Winterfell. A few people asked for the recipe … and then gently reminded me a couple of months later … I’ve finally gotten my butt into gear to finalise the recipe. It first came about as a bit of an ‘all in’, using bits and pieces I had in the fridge – so feel free to replace the vegetables and herbs with whatever you have. Continue reading

Fiery Dragon Eggs (aka baked avocado eggs with chilli salsa)

It’s Game of Thrones season! Woohooooo. GoT is one of my favourite TV shows (probably my most favourite, to be honest); so I was pretty stoked when fellow nerd Marisa, of Miss Marzipan, started a three month Food of Thrones feature over on Instagram (see #foodofthrones2016). Although she initially invited foodie Instagrammers to make GoT themed dishes in the lead-up to the season premiere (check out her You Know Nothing Jon Snow Cone), a bunch of us got REALLY EXCITED – so Marisa decided to continue it throughout the season. 😀 Each week, she sets a theme for people to contribute to, and she will be developing an eBook at the end featuring some of the vegetarian meals. This will be downloadable after a small donation to charity. Continue reading
